Brooke Miller is a licensed psychotherapist, nationally published columnist, and radio host known for fusing her kindness and empathy with a smart, no-holds-barred approach to mental health.
No stranger to adversity, Brooke has grappled with body image issues, escaped a deadly house fire and survived two brain surgeries. Her wisdom, charisma, positive attitude, and unique life experiences have launched her work as a sought after expert offering rational, realistic advice for modern life.
A native of the Midwest, Brooke was born in Detroit and grew up in Chicago. After being followed by a camera crew for two years of high school for a documentary on teenage life, Brooke’s passion for personal identity development was sparked and her existing interest and comfort in front of the camera was solidified.
After moving to Los Angeles for college and receiving her BA in Communication from The University of Southern California, she continued to build her career in support services and human behavior by working for Jane Buckingham, (author and host of Modern Girls Guide To Life and founder of Youth Intelligence and Trendera, inc.) and Ken Seely, (founder of Intervention 911, now featured on A&E’s Intervention).
Moving north to San Francisco in 2004, Brooke received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and became a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has since worked in a variety of settings including high schools, in-patient facilities, and private practice settings with adolescents, adults, couples, and families ranging in age, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and diagnosis.
Brooke broadened her career in 2009, proudly founding and launching Soapbox Therapy: Emotional Health For Your Modern Self, a network of support services for anyone seeking to better their emotional health. The Soapbox Therapy LLC (SBT) network includes regular advice columns, videos, private consultations, Brooke’s personal blog and commentary, seminars, radio appearances, workshops and television projects.
Soapbox Therapy is featured as a regular column on the popular entertainment news site, The Morton Report and has been named in the top 50 advice blogs on Facebook. SBT has also appeared in such publications as Primer Men’s Magazine and The IS Collection, a San Francisco Chronicle affiliate, as well as numerous online outlets.
Featured as a “Trailblazer” in the July 2011 issue of San Francisco’s 944 Magazine, Miller has contributed her voice to numerous television projects as well as served as an expert consultant for numerous published works.
Additionally, as a speaker, consultant, and coach, Brooke has been featured by organizations such as The 40-Factor, Skirt, The International Nanny Association, A Band Of Wives, The City of San Francisco, Whole Body Talk, Purchase.com, Psychologydegree.net, Three Girls & a Mic, Her Exchange, The Oakland Small Schools Foundation, Sonoma Valley Sun Radio, and The Vanessa Carias Show.
